“Cultures of the microalga Isochrysis galbana were maintained in 80-L photobioreactors with continuous strong aeration. The culture water was filtered to 1 μm, sterilized with chlorine, and enriched with a commercial fertilizer (Hyponex 5 medium at 0.015 g/L). A photoperiod of 14 h light: 10 h dark was maintained using LED lighting at approximately 4000 lx. The cultured microalgae were used as feed for copepods and for water conditioning in fish larviculture. The copepod Bestiolina coreana (strain: NTOU-Best.-1) was originally isolated from Tapong Bay, Taiwan, and has been maintained at the Laboratory of Aquatic Live Feed Organisms at National Taiwan Ocean University since 2021. Copepods were cultured in 2000-L fiber- reinforced plastic (FRP) tanks containing 1-μm filtered seawater and fed daily with I. galbana at 104 to 105 cells/mL. The culture water was renewed weekly by 30 % of total volume. Copepod nauplii (size: 80–100 μm) were harvested for larval feeding by sieving through 120-μm mesh (to retain copepodites and adults) and 38-μm mesh (to collect nauplii). Nauplii of brine shrimp Artemia franciscana (Ocean Star International, USA) were obtained from cysts incubation in a 100-L black FRP tank under strong aeration at 28 ± 1◦C and 35 ± 1 ppt. ”
