Similar species: Codium repens / Neomeris annulata
Codium repens comes from the Caribbeans (to 10m depth).
Neomeris annulata is from Indo-Pacific. Both algae are difficult to identify by photo if the origin is unknown.
In nature the algae grow beneath the surf zone (2 to 4 m depth) to depths of approximately 10m, frequently under rock overhangs in moderate light of 2000 to 5000 lux.
Very sensitive to poor water quality. Should not be kept in aquaria that contain fishes. The diameter of the alga bunch can reach 40cm.
